In 2007, prior to commencing the journal broadsheet, The Night Press published 10 single sheet broadsheets for sale.
The broadsheets were hand-printed by Mark Pirie on 100gsm cream laid paper and sold at Quilters Bookshop in Wellington and at Poetrywall: Winter Readings at the City Gallery that year. Other bookshops were approached but the idea proved unpopular. Bookshops weren’t sure how to sell single page broadsheets without them being damaged or lost in displays.
A decision was made to collect the 10 broadsheets into a magazine chapbook format called broadsheet. The poems from the 10 original broadsheets appeared in broadsheet, issue 1, May 2008. Alistair Te Ariki Campbell’s broadsheet included a reissue of his early poem “Intacta” and another version of his poem “To my Muse” (collected in Just Poetry, HeadworX, 2007).
